Tomorrow is there two
weeks left until the local election here in Turkey. The result will be analysed
for weeks after that to explained what happened and why.
This week a 15 year
old boy who was shot last year by a teargas grenade during the demonstrations
in Istanbul died after 9 months in coma. The funeral was followed by many
thousand and was peaceful. Later in the evening new demonstrations took place
all over Turkey and police used teargas and water cannons again. One man was
shot to death and a police man died of heart attack after been exposed to
teargas. It is still unclear who shot the man.
This is one of the
main news this week. People are upset since no one is found guilty for the
fatal teargas shot last year and the police have not started any investigation.
The other news that
may affect the election is the handling of the corruption case that was publicised
December 17th last year and will be presented for the parliament in
a special session on Wednesday Mach 19th.
In addition we have
many new tapes with the prime minister and the Gülen movement that works on,
but this has now become more ordinary news.
As a foreigner I try
to follow the new and observe the development. What I am curious about now is
how this will affect the election and what will be the reaction of the ruling
party, AKP, if they lose a lot.
But, two weeks more
and we may have the answers.
